Legalizing the Marriage Certificate in Lebanon or Abroad

  • For registration in Lebanon: The couple must proceed with the legalization of the marriage certificate, along with its translation into English, a service we provide as part of our package.
  • For registration outside Lebanon: The couple must proceed with the notarization of the marriage certificate.
  • Note: Why does the procedure differ between Lebanon and other countries? Because Lebanon is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. Therefore, the Lebanese Embassy does not accept notarization; it only accepts legalization. In both cases, the document must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with its translation.

Post-Marriage Steps: Authentication at the Lebanese Embassy

We contact the Lebanese Embassy in Yerevan on behalf of the groom, using a Power of Attorney. We send the couple's documents via email for the Embassy to review before dispatching the originals by express mail.

Steps for Civil Marriage in Georgia

  • Sending passports via WhatsApp
  • Translating and notarizing the passports into Georgian by the Ministry of Justice
  • The couple arrives in Georgia. Visit the House of Justice to book an appointment, accompanied by both parties, and submit the required documents: Passports, and a divorce certificate if previously married.
  • Return to the House of Justice upon receiving an SMS from them to register the marriage contract in the presence of 2 witnesses
  • Receive the marriage certificate immediately on the same day

  • Translated and authenticated marriage certificate by the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Legalization). Individual and family civil registry records for both parties

Process

1. We send the documents by email, and upon receiving confirmation from the Embassy that everything is correct

2. We dispatch the originals via Express Mail (Shipment 1)

3. The Embassy sends us a registration application form to be signed under the Power of Attorney (Shipment 2, covered by us)

4. After signing, we return the form to the Embassy (Shipment 3). At this point, our role is complete, and we have fulfilled all requirements for the Embassy authentication process to register the marriage in Lebanon. The Embassy then forwards all documents through the diplomatic pouch. Upon arrival, the Mukhtar (local civil registrar) of the groom's district receives them and completes the remaining procedures in Lebanon.
