Excursions

  • Historic Stone Town: The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stone Town offers living evidence of a rich cultural heritage, where Arabic, Indian, Persian and European influences blend with local African traditions. This half-day tour takes you to all the highlights of Stone Town, such as Darajani Market (the main bazaar in Zanzibar), the former Slave Market, Forodhani Gardens with views of the House of Wonders, the Sultan's Palace, the Arab Old Fort and much more to explore.
  • Spectacular Spices: This half-day tour provides a rare experience proving why Zanzibar is known as the “Spice Island”. For centuries, the local people have grown spices and various fruits. We are delighted to take you to small spice farms in the countryside of Zanzibar, where cloves, vanilla, many other spices, medicinal plants, ornamental plants and tropical fruits are grown.
  • Prison Island: Changuu Island, better known as Prison Island, lies about 30 minutes by boat from Stone Town. This half-day guided tour takes you to the island to discover its historic past and present, including the giant tortoises that roam around. The island was originally intended for the confinement of refractory slaves, but no prisoners were ever housed there. It later became a quarantine station for yellow fever epidemics. General Lloyd Mathews bought the island, and the jail which still stands was built in 1893, hence the name “Prison Island”. The island also houses Aldabra giant tortoises.
  • Jozani Forest: Home to the famous endemic Kirk’s Red Colobus monkey, this half-day tour takes you into the island’s only national park to walk along nature trails and observe fascinating wildlife. Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park (50km2) houses the endangered Red Colobus monkey, named after British consul Sir John Kirk, and is a fascinating place to explore. On this half-day tour of nature and zoology, your guide will help you find them. Keep your eyes focused on the treetops to spot these elusive creatures and other animals such as Sykes’ monkeys, bush babies, duikers, butterflies and several birds.
  • Reef and Beach Submarine Tour: Embark on a one-of-a-kind experience starting with a ride aboard distinctive semi-submarines, which offer an upper observation deck and ports beneath the waterline. Journeying from Stone Town, you will have the opportunity to explore Bawe Island before making a delightful stop at a sandbank to enjoy a picnic lunch. The submarine continues its course, and a speedboat will be waiting to escort you back to Stone Town. This remarkable tour promises breathtaking vistas of the island’s attractions, including magnificent dhows, vibrant reefs, and captivating marine life thriving beneath the surface.
  • Zanzibar Dining Options: Rooftop dining at Emerson Spice Tea House Restaurant or Terrace Restaurant at Maru Maru Hotel. Waterfront dining at The Beach House or The Floating Restaurant.
